There are no words to describe the devastation and destruction our beautiful southwest Florida communities have endured from hurricane Ian. There is a lot of sadness and pain but one of the main sentiments I have heard from neighbors is... โWe are blessed.โ We survived, our loved ones survived... our homes, property, and cars can be replaced and/or repaired.
๐Statistics: The storm will come to be known as โThe Big Oneโ in the Fort Myers area, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis told reporters. Find out whyโฌ๏ธ
๐จ 155 mph maximum sustained winds; just 2 mph short of becoming a category 5 hurricane when it made landfall in Fort Myers and Sanibel Island. In Pelican Bay, we experienced 112 mph winds. The fifth-strongest hurricane to make landfall in U.S. history.
๐ Tide gauges in Naples and Fort Myers both posted their highest water levels on record; forecast levels of 12-18 feet are suspended to have occurred in some spots. I believe my parents home in old Naples experienced 12ft and Geoff and I experienced 15ft.
๐ Over 80% of those affected by this natural disaster do not have flood insurance. Thousands of families will be devastated no only by the personal loss but by the financial burden of rebuilding.
โก๏ธ An astounding 34,000 lightning events were detected, 1,000 in the eye wall โ making it one of the most electrify walls in a storm in the Gulf of Mexico.
๐ก 2.3 million people were without power and about 400,000 are still without power.
๐ As of right now, 105 lives have been lost
๐ Praying: we are continuing to pray for all those affected by Hurricane Ian. We are praying for those who have lost their homes. We are praying for those who lost loved ones ๐๐
Dear God, we ask for Your care and protection for people affected by catastrophic winds, rains, and floods. Give survivors the assurance of Your presence and equip those who will provide relief and assistance after the storm passes.
๐ Thank you to all the first responders, police, firefighters, coastguard, linemen, volunteers, charitable organizations, neighbors, friends, and those that are helping Florida come back stronger than ever #FloridaStrong
