The African art world = not having any money or infrastructure, getting into debt, working to get out of it, work arriving at 2am in Dakar the day of the opening, finishing set up at 6am and going straight into the working day, nothing working or arriving, never ending problem-solving & improvisation, constant exhaustion; and yet, the indescribable joy when it all works out in the end. Being surrounded by so much raw beauty and support and love. This exhibition was called Nkabom, the Museum as Community, and ever since I started ANO the aim was to create a space that I and people like me could exist in freely and exchange and interact. I almost can’t believe this is what’s happened, that from the beginning I’ve been surrounded by this family, and that I get to work alongside these smart, thoughtful, paradigm-shifting people. I can’t put into words how much I love everyone in these pictures and the many more I can’t fit here and what a privilege it is to get to create these narratives and stories and spaces amongst them #nkabom #themuseumascommunity 👗: @adamaparis ✨
