@miss.clare.in.the.wild on her podcast @backcountrybtchs “The initial inspiration for Backcountry Bitches actually came from the comedy podcasts “2 Dope Queens” and “Guys we Fucked.” While these podcasts have very different subject matter from what we discuss on “Backcountry Bitches,” listening to badass ladies talk about the lows and highs of their life in an uncensored and genuine way appealed to me on a deep level, and was something I felt like was lacking in my own community. • I wanted to create a space where women and other folks whose voices are often less amplified have a space just to be silly, badass, thoughtful, afraid...in short, be whole people, not just token diversity finds. If we cant find an equitable place at the table, why not just eat on the floor? With lots of throw pillows, snacks, and all our gear? Fuck “the table”, let’s shake up the system. • I know that I have a lot of privilege as a middle class, hetero-passing, white lady, and I want to use that privilege to uplift others, not to maintain the status quo. Selfishly, as well, i wanted an excuse to sit down and just bask in the glory of all the badass bitches I know, and i have not been disappointed. • Making intimate connections and learning from powerful people will always be one of my “whys” for making the podcast, as well as my “why” for going out and exploring, playing, and working in the backcountry at all.
