One of the biggest things I learnt last week was about patterns, recognising the habits in our practice we fall into unconsciously. How we always move in a certain way, the way we breathe, the way we always revert back into what feels familiar, known, and safe. Sometimes it takes someone outside to question those habits and show us another possibility. And that’s not always comfortable. We’re protective of ourselves, we like to believe the way we’ve always done things is right. So when we’re faced with a different way, how do we respond? Can we set aside our egos, admit there’s always more to learn, that there may be a better way, and stay open to change?
It made me think about life too. How we live unconsciously, stuck in patterns that shape how we act and react. Some good, some bad. Then something or someone comes along that makes us question it all. In those moments, do we accept the discomfort and step into change, even if it scares us? Or do we retreat into the safety of what we’ve always known, trying to convince ourselves it must be right because it feels safe and familiar?
If it’s always the latter, how do we expect to grow? Every person we meet a mirror, every trigger a signal for the things that still need healing. It’s fine if you want to stay the same, but if we want to keep growing, be stronger, be happier, be genuinely fulfilled, the challenge then is pausing in those moments and saying: this feels different, this feels uncomfortable... but maybe it’s exactly what I need
