I wanted to share this comic I made last year again as this month marks the 10 year anniversary of dealing with this degenerative neurological condition and the after effects of the spine surgery that finally fixed it. The thing about Spinal Leaks is that they don't just cause the physical pain but also mental degeneration. It's a slow (sometimes decades long) process of literally losing your mind bit by bit. When some people get bad enough they actually just go into a coma. I don't remember much of the last five years especially and tend to refer to it as the time "when I was crazy." Because of high rates of misdiagnosis many more people than are recorded suffer from spinal leaks...and the thing is that it's usually fixable, especially when it's caught early (it almost never is). If I can help even one person by sharing my story with my little drawings I'll feel that something has been accomplished.
