SIGN THE PETITION! Every year, about 160 million liters of subsidized cow’s milk is served in schools all over Europe within the EU school scheme, amounting to a massive chunk* of C02e emissions and building a preference for dairy products while children’s eating habits are being established. At the same time, the EU cares about people’s lifestyles and health and wants us to increase the consumption of plant-based foods as one of the ways to achieve the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals. Not including plant-based drinks in the scheme is irrational and counterproductive. But good news! Right now, the European Union has opened a public consultation, giving us a window of opportunity to cheer them on to give children the right to choose plant-based drinks by including them in the school scheme. It's possible to write directly to the European Commission or you can show support by hitting the link in our bio to sign and share the petition that our friends at ProVeg are hosting. You choose how your voice is heard. So kids can choose what to drink in school. #schoolmilk *”A massive chunk” is approximately 220 800 tons of CO2e each year, plant-based drinks generally has a lower climate impact than cow’s milk (Poore, J., & Nemecek, T. 2018) so serving it in schools can really make a difference.
