“Flak!” (2025), depicts the prelude of Joseph Beuys’ mythical plane crash. Here, Beuys’ plane is attacked by a Russian anti-aircraft barrage, inevitably crashing his plane into the Crimean forest below. By focusing on Beuys’ Stuka dive-bomber, the work aims to direct attention to the reality of his Nazi past rather than the romantics of his tale of artistic rebirth. The panel’s composition references Gerhard Richter’s “Stukas” (1964). Flak!, 2025 Leather, dye, and wax on wooden panel 26.5 x 22.5 in On view at @super___house until Oct 18
