On the coach across the country today I decided to make a playlist to mark the end of the year. This is what came out.
Then I thought, why not. Have this really emotional playlist, have some memes, have some book recommendations. Hi everyone!
I’ve been thinking about how much I crushed my inner ‘sad indie girl’ because a man thought it was cringe.
Then I remembered that experiencing the full spectrum of my emotions is sacred. It’s a miracle really, to be here, feeling sad, feeling joyful, in the belly of my climate grief. Living in wonder and disdain at the whole thing.
So this one goes out to everyone who’s had their sadness suppressed. Have a listen, have a cry!
And whilst you’re here, here’s some of what you haven’t seen until now...
In 2022, I:
Lost my childhood home
Started therapy
Left a long-term monogamous relationship
Helped a loved one through a mental health crisis.
Battled depression
Got sober again
Recovered from immense burnout
Etc
Call it oversharing. I’ll call it taking myself off a pedestal. And reminding people that what you see on social media is such a small portion of the picture.
It’s not been sitting right with me, thinking about how it looks on here versus how much I’ve actually been struggling this year.
But, shock, horror! I live a full, complex emotional life full of my own traumas and issues.
Anyway, I’m going into 2023 prioritising the regulation of my nervous system. I hope you are too. Prioritising the release of old habits, old emotions. Prioritising truly living every day as if it were our last. Because who knows, it could be! Prioritising finding joy and laughing at the absurdity of this frankly WEIRD AND UNFATHOMABLE plane of existence.
This life is so fleeting. I welcome every second of it. Even in the face of suffering.
We made it round the sun once more. I’m proud of you.
Goodbye 2022. Thank you for the lessons. 🫶
