@PhotoVogue Festival 2022 is coming! At BASE Milano from November 17 to 20. “The Next Great Fashion Image Makers”: today we introduce @jaragarciaazor (Spain). #JaraGarcíaAzor is one of the 40 artists selected for this exhibition through our first Global Open Call by an international jury among more than 30,000 images and 3.000 artists from 121 different countries! The open call is endorsed by all the editions of Vogue globally. #JaraGarcíaAzor’s project that will be exhibited is titled “Pieles (Skin)” PIELES, lies between the fashion editorial and the documentary photo-essay to explore human skin as a surface of self-expression, memory, pain and disobedience. Through the skin and personal history of 8 individuals based in Madrid, Spain; this project showcases voluntary or involuntary, painful and even sometimes life-long scars, modifications or nuances all on the body. Shot during a whole day in an old family garage in the neighborhood of Ventas, Madrid; Sandra, Luci, Vero, Techo and Jara collaborated with the street-casted models to create these images paying close attention to clothing, details and environment. The project is mapped out as an end in itself and even a ritual. On shooting-day, all the team meets in an old family garage in Ventas to welcome all the talents. (...)The importance of street-casting and the preoccupation with the story each skin had to tell is added to the fashion editorial language: clothes that let skin come through, textures, nudity, props that were found in the location of the shoot (garage), minimal make-up... Finally, both the images and the photographic paper they were hand-printed in, reflect on skin. In the post production and laboratory process, the paper has been treated as if it was skin, with involuntary or voluntary marks: dirt, kisses, cigarette stains... This way, the photographs in themselves and their treatment align with the creative direction of this photo-essay.
