An amazing trip with amazing people. The community of Jiquilillo welcomed us in with open arms. We got to see a glimpse of the beautiful culture of an amazing group of people. We learned from hardworking, talented and inspiring individuals about their lifestyles and the history of Nicaragua. Jiquilillo taught me many things. Most importantly, it taught me that being a global citizen transcends all barriers, even a massive language barrier. When you stop to truly empathize with one another, you learn that many of the issues that the world faces can only be solved through compassion, determination and an open mind. It also taught me that there are plenty of great people out there who can and will make a difference. To the people I met in Jiquilillo, thank you. Through endless games of volleyball, screaming karaoke on the bus, hot days at the worksite, candlelit dinners, etc., you all helped create memories that will last with me forever.
