15 years ago a stranger gave me $200 to buy a ticket to a Broadway show. Yesterday, I ran into that stanger, Mark Howell, on the street. We were recently reunited by our friend Doug Sills who happened to see a photo I posted and a message about how that Broadway ticket changed my life. We had planned to meet up one day, and the universe decided that day was yesterday. Mark is seeing me in @companybway today after buying me a ticket to see Patti Lupone on Broadway when I couldn't afford it. He had no idea that I was an aspiring actor. I told the story on This American Life interviewed by my dear friend Elna Baker, and it comes out tonight. This year, inspired by what he did, I started an initiative called City of Strangers to help people who can't afford tickets to a Broadway show or don't feel welcome in the space. We give away tickets, not free tickets but tickets paid for by others strangers - through generous donations from some really selfless and inspiring people. We've welcomed over 1300 people to a Broadway show so far, and stay tuned for more exciting info about it. But for now, I don't know how else to say this but: good things happen. And a random act of kindness can actually change someone's path. I hope you catch the story tonight on @thisamerlife, I ugly cry at one point. @sillsla @markerichowell @elnabaker
