January 2022 is a significant date for me... It marks 10 years since I made the commitment to manage @superduperkyle (Jan. 1, 2012). My journey in the music biz started a couple years prior to that as a photographer and roadie on tour but after about a year of that I quickly realized that if my dream was to be a Manager then I needed my *OWN* client. Kyle and I had already done some successful work together in 2011 and his attitude and work ethic were second to none. I knew that if I helped him refine his sound, build his brand and produce amazing content we could build a fanbase. On top of that, Kyle was always so receptive to my all ideas and guidance which is very rare for a young artist. He really trusted me (in retrospect, what an amazing feeling!) I tell this story because like many of you who are writing down your goals and dreams for the new year – I vividly remember writing in my iphone notes at the end of 2011 to, "make K.i.D a priority". It's funny because Kyle didnt "hire" me or I didnt "sign him" like you hear about in the industry. In November of 2011, while I was on tour with Mac Miller I typed out a full marketing plan/strategy then I literally just DECIDED I was gonna make helping him my priority 2012. Then I just started showing up to his house and calling him everyday during my breaks at the pizza place. The moral of the story literally could be as simple as that: decide, then show up, everyday. But there is something much deeper here that I would be remiss not to point it out... More important then the "potential success of a project" is; - WHAT you are doing? (do you love it?) - WHO are you doing it with? (do you love them?) You damn sure wont last a decade if you don't... I wanna say thank you to @superduperkyle for believing in me and allowing me to guide him and his career for 10 years - the journey has truly been the destination, all the up’s, down’s and in-between’s!
