Repost from @gerrenliles•[Please read] As my taxi driver made a frantic U-turn after realizing he missed the course, I asked myself why did I alter a great vacation itinerary to do a @spartan race. When we finally got there, an emotion hit me that I don’t think ever did before. Loneliness. I always do things alone, including Spartans, but for some reason, it hit different today. New country, new language, no random friends showing up. I was literally near tears walking up to the starting gate..Then the thing happened that always happens, the spotlight finding me. Turns out because I was late, my heat left and the next heat was elite womens, so the emcees decided to send me off alone as my own heat (check my stories 😆), with all the announcement and fanfare (“All the way from America, Gerrrrooooone is gonna start by himself!”) and so it eased my spirit. And I was off..Five minutes in, I knew chillaxing the last two weeks was gonna catch up to me. No clue if I’d finish, and a lot of hard convos were happening in my head. But I did finish, for two reasons. One, as the race went on, I’d hear “Mr Americano, you can do it!” from the elite women coming up 🤣🤣🤣 but more importantly, I kept thinking “This is my story, how do you want it to end?” and I knew I would not fail me. I booked this race knowing I don’t have as many years to add to the story of my life, but oh the stories I will have to tell.#aroo#spartan#lululemon#thesweatlife
