Y'all, I just learned, Michaelangelo did not have a good time painting that Sistine Chapel ceiling. It makes total sense! Painting crooked on a scaffold for four years. The process: way less poetic than the finished product, but it makes me like it way more. Our boii Angelo wrote this during the painting of the chapel: "Because I'm stuck like this, my thoughts are crazy, perfidious tripe: anyone shoots badly through a crooked blowpipe. My painting is dead. Defend it for me, Giovanni, protect my honor. I am not in the right place—I am not a painter." 🤯One of the greatest painters in history who basically designed an image of God decides he's "not a painter". Blows my mind. #art is steady, and slow, and sometimes you wonder if its worth it, and it's hard to see a finished product when you haven't blinked for days.
