The Landmark of Florence: Ponte Vecchio
Time literally stops when you linger on the Ponte Vecchio. It is place for getting inspired and falling in love with Florence again. Being home for jewellery stores has gone hand in hand with the Florentine people so the story is worth hearing.
This famed bridge's medieval structure dates from the 14th century and became the city's landmark. It used to be a marketplace of fishmongers and butchers. Creating unpleasant conditions, the bridge was prohibited for butchers in order to enforce the prestige of the bridge. Therefore, it became a home for Gold merchants. The 17th century shops perch over the river Arno. Above, the Vasari Corridor, once a private walkaway for the Medici, links Palazzo Vecchio to Palazzo Pitti. It survived during the WW2 and it is the oldest existing bridge in the city.
