Tag someone you wanna ice plunge with.. The ice doesn't lie, you can't fake it in the ice, and it never gets easier, you only gain more acceptance of the discomfort, which comes when you to breathe through the panic. Being in the ice is like going on a date with your 'fight or flight' mechanisms aka your anxiety. Your body reacts, and you have to breath to convert that into a more controlled response. Everything in you screams "GET THE FUCK OUT", but a part of you has to say "what if we don't?". In Poland, we were just told to trust our bodies to figure it out, and eventually the panic settles, and the body makes peace that we're not leaving, and adjusts accordingly. But in the short ice baths, the goal is to gain that acceptance earlier than later. My goal was to find my calm in the ice before the one minute mark, and add encouragement to the others who hadn't done this before. As soon as I got in, my mind screamed "FUCK THIS, LETS GET OUT" and I had to close my eyes, breathe diliberately and say "we're not getting out bro, we can do this, we've been doing this". I'm going to start hosting ice parties in my tub.. for most of us, sitting in the ice is the hardest thing we may ever do, once we do this, what else can we achieve? What have we been avoiding?
