🌟How I use playdoh as a tool during the first few weeks of kinder: (🚨 Save this post & share your playdoh ideas in the comments to help out other teachers!) 👯‍♀️Getting to know you: -Make your family & tell your neighbor their names -Make your pet (or dream pet) tell a neighbor about them -Build your favorite food/sport/animal/etc and share with your table 🙋🏼‍♀️Name Practice: -Form First letter -Form all letters of name -Form initials -Use popsicles stick to write name -Use Lego to stamp name -Use letter stamps to stamp name 🔡Letters/Sounds -I say a letter or sound they make a “statue” that starts with that letter -I say a student name they make the first letter -Letter of the week statues -Later we will work on sight words! 🔢Number Practice -Form the numbers -I say a number & they make objects to match amount (snakes, balls, etc) -Roll dice & match with balls/snakes -Count while squishing ^ -Later we will use playdoh to add, subtract, count on ten frames! 🔼Shape Practice -Form shapes -Build shapes with popsicle sticks and dough -Build shapes with dough and straws —Later we will build 3D shapes 🖐🏻 Fine Motor Skills -simply playing with the dough helps with FMS! -Cutting the dough helps with ✂️ control -An OT told me to try freezing it for more strengthening activities ! 🧘🏼‍♀️Calm Down / Emotional Regulation: -Squish dough & deep breaths -Squish dough while watching a calming timer First Day Activity- & of course my favorite Magic 🪄 Playdoh (see highlight and precious reel to see my favorite first day playdoh activity!)
