Today I’m 10 years a vegan (and no, I haven’t cheated, nor have I been tempted to eat dairy). I was raised vegetarian.
It’s been fun to discover cuisine that I wouldn’t have been able to if someone hadn’t ‘veganized’ these dishes. I’ve cooked up storms over these past 10 years based on recipes from near and dear ones, books, strangers on the internet, and from trial and intuition - I trained a muscle I didn’t know I had!
A couple of years into my then new lifestyle choice, I discovered that May Kaidee, a popular vegan chef who hosts cookings classes I had seen while traveling through Thailand had opened up a vegan Thai restaurant in Midtown East! Finally I could relive all the wonderful flavors of Thailand that I was missing. Years later, she moved to a bigger location on the Lower East Side and is still thriving - see May singing a Thai love song at the end of the night for her guests! While many vegan restaurants are having to make the tough choice of adding meat and dairy to their menus, let’s add a little extra support for the ones who haven’t!
Today when @duke.cashmere and I were making plans on where to celebrate this milestone I decided to introduce him to some real vegan Thai food. He was sold! I might not be into converting my fam into vegans, but hey I can sure help tantalize their tastebuds! Thanks @duke.cashmere always a fun time with you!
