It’s been nearly one year exactly since I joined The Kitchen (@thekitchen_nyc).
This gorgeous team here of brilliant radical thinkers and practitioners that we are building—and this gorgeous next phase that we are stepping into the imagination of—is testament to the impact and future-vision of what an art world that is truly invested in doing experimental work can look like.
I want more homes for wildness, more space for the weird, more sustainable futures for artists and art workers, more institutions with somatic intelligence, more recognition for avant-garde histories that resist / refuse / and rework. I want blurry space and joy space and discovery space for QTPOCIA+ people.
This next chapter and leap of faith is for the next generation of this work. My hope is that people will keep coming to learn, exchange, explore, vibe, riff, remix, deskill, decolonise, abstract, unravel sense, reconnect and reconsider, rebuild. My hope is that there will be new proposals made in this moment now by our dedicated collaborators and creative community for how we can make history and remake art history.
To call *thee* Lucille Clifton into the room: “Won’t you celebrate with me?”
