Post-holiday self-care with @mch_wellness Our naturopathic nutritionist, Paloma Ruiz, shares a bit of post-holiday wisdom for those of us looking to get back on track after weeks of celebrations. According to Paloma, a “good” nutritional approach is based on consistency and calm, and the ability to make lifestyle decisions that are individual to our needs: Here are some sensible tips to implement for getting back to normal: • Make time for a good breakfast and don’t skip your meals – include some protein every morning so your blood sugar is balanced. This is key, believe me. • Exercise portion-control over being emotional about food. Do I really need to eat all of this? • Experiment with desserts. Instead of butter, other great alternatives could be nut cream, vanilla almond or coconut yogurt. • Start to take good quality digestive enzymes to give your digestion a helping hand to make you feel full. • Be in control of your snacks • Staying hydrated is always important, especially after the holiday break. While drinking water is important, food can also help you get the hydration your body needs. Try to incorporate these water-rich foods into your diet for an extra hydration boost: Cucumber - Celery - Bell peppers - Watermelon - Strawberries • Eat consciously and take responsibility for it • Take time to slow down • Get some Z’s • Get moving (slowly): Start with a 20-minute walk. It can not only increase your energy levels, but it can also improve your mood, memory, and sleep — not to mention strengthen your immune system and cardiovascular fitness.
