🎂 Acetate turns 10 this weekend ! 🎈
Back in 2010 while living in Leeds I started a party called Acetate. Hosted at @wireclubleeds (where we used to hold the Ruffage nights) the original idea behind Acetate was to give me and some friends the chance to dig out our old records that we wouldn’t normally play in our sets. At that time we were mainly using Serato and CDRs, and turntables in clubs were often in terrible shape. I’d always had a love for vinyl from my teenage years spent in Soho record shops, and at the time was also delving deeper into house music history and the classic DJ setups of rotary mixers and isolators.
Although beginning as a vinyl-only party, now DJs use whatever medium they want at the night - the word acetate is also a synonym for a dubplate, and so a few years ago it seemed right to shift the emphasis onto forward-thinking new music, without DJs being restricted by an exclusionary format. The tech setup has also shifted over the years from a portable E&S, to a huge 1970s Bozak, with the night now using the incredible sounding @isonoe_london 420 (shouts to Justin!!). Thanks to @ashes57 for creating all the lovely artwork since the beginning. Thanks to the crew at Wire as well as @subdubleeds who have always provided invaluable support too. And finally a big thank you of course to all the guest DJs past and present, and anyone who’s made it down to a night!
Missing a year because of the pandemic, Acetate will now be 10 years old and there’s been over 30 parties since it started. Hopefully see some of you there this Saturday at Wire to celebrate :) I don’t have many pics of the night at all but swipe through for a few memories from over the years! (video by @shaunbloodwortharchive RIP).
