I work at the intersection of #health, #climatechange, and Asian-American identity. This article by @nbcasianamerica encapsulates so much of my rage and grief. I am SO sick and tired of myths like the “#modelminority” erasing the stories of so many #AsianAmericans like this. I am so tired of our elderly and our aunties and uncles and our siblings being constantly forced by this country to prove why we matter. This is the story of #HurricaneIda’s storm surges and how they disproportionately killed Asian Americans.

P.S. And a furious stare at all these people who dismissed my story of growing up in a predominantly White town under the poverty line as a first-gen Chinese American #immigrant with no English speakers in the family while supporting our entire extended family that still lives in newspaper-patched “houses” in the poorest province of China - because I was Asian so I must not experience any #racism or economic harm. F*** the stereotypes - any one of these people could’ve been me. I used to buy out as much of the inventory as I can when I worked in the Bay Area and saw an old Chinese man selling his paintings on the streets and I see him now in the first paragraph of this story and I’m just so sad and angry. If you care about me, please care about my people too. We are not invisible. Stop acting like we’re invisible.
(I am usually not a fan of using hashtags because for me personally it feels a bit like I’m commercializing what I’m trying to say - not saying that’s the case for others at all, just a personal discomfort - but I DO want to get more eyes on this article so excuse the hashtags if they feel a bit... gimmicky is not the right word but you know what I mean hopefully)
