Last summer I accidentally overstayed my UK visa and had to suddenly relocate a few weeks of London sessions to Barcelona. The city had just reopened that week and the energy was wild and new. @carlota_guerrero found me and I spent a day mostly naked in her studio surrounded by these magical women, painting each other in exaggerated contour. It was so hot that day that we only consumed coffee and dates. Carlotta was precise, powerful, hardcore behind the camera. Ourselves disappeared entirely, we became her slowly-moving painting. After we shot, we took off the makeup (shocked by how different each other’s real faces looked), put our street clothes back on, and they talked me into singing for them acapella in the empty concrete studio. It was my first time singing for anyone since before the pandemic, i was shaking from nerves but the acoustics were magnificent. Wine appeared after and they danced flamenco, laughing, teaching me the hand movements, sneakers skidding in sunlit puddles of water and cigarette ash. It was one of the most beautiful days of my life. I’m mostly putting all this here so i get to remember it more often.
