60 years ago, on 4 August 1962 the Über-Icon Marilyn Monroe left us. While the cause of her passing still remains unsolved, the glamour, the tragic and moving life, her famous lovers and her movies will always be part of Hollywood ́s history, and of the international popular culture. She has charmed us in "Some like it Hot", enthralled us in "Gentlemen Prefer Blondes" and "How to Marry a Millionaire", sung to us (and to J.F. Kennedy) with her seductive voice - but her forelast movie "The Misfits" remains one of a kind. Starring on the side of Clark Gable and Montgomery Clift, Monroe ́s part was surely no piece of cake. During the take, Magnum Photos send out all their current photographers, to take pictures while filming and in between the scenes. Especially in the intimate photographs, taken by Inge Morath and Eve Arnold, all on view at our current "HOLLYWOOD" exhibition, you can literally sense and feel the struggle Monroe was fighting with herself, her cast and her role. More images, which depict the remaining casts and reflect a more official view of Marilyn Monroe and her colleagues, as well as her then-husband Arthur Miller, will be on view on the occasion of the upcoming group exhibition "Magnum Photos. The Misfits", opening on 2 September 2022, 7 pm, in our project room. This show is organized in cooperation with Magnum Photos, and will be part of this year ́s @berlinphotoweek . We invite you to take a closer look at those amazing photographs, and to remember Marilyn Monroe together" Images: Marilyn Monroe going over her lines for a difficult scene, The Misfits, USA 1960, copyright Eve Arnold/Magnum Photos Inge Morath, Marilyn Monroe on the set of The Misfits, Reno, Nevada, USA, 1960, copyright Inge Morath/Magnum Photos #marilynmonroe #remember #hollywood @magnumphotos @berlinphotoweek #exhibition #themisfits #savethedate #icon #actress #blonde #star #helmutnewtonfoundationberlin
