Weka is on the scent of something interesting! Apparently, she didn’t detect anything too enticing in that direction, so she changed course and headed back from whence she came. (Which is no surprise, because that’s where her two best friends — who we will introduce soon — were hanging out!)
Weka joined our foster programme yesterday. She is yet another drought victim, likely left behind when she grew too weak to keep up with her herd. The drought id all about survival, and elephants must prioritise the group over any individual. Fortunately, our pilot spotted her from the air before it was too late.
