It's a tribute to the older parts of the city that are rapidly vanishing. Of course, they are vanishing so quickly that much of what I'd have loved to shoot is already demolished or relegated to the Neon Museum. I wonder if even the locations we did find that still evoked the bygone neon-soaked Vegas of yore will still be there in five or ten years. We shot this video on a Bolex, which is a camera I haven't used in a while. It was liberating to return to such a low footprint but high return piece of equipment, and its size allowed us to move through a lot of locations in the Vegas area in a limited amount of time, while 16mm gave us the freedom to work largely with existing light. I shudder to think what shooting around Fremont Street and Downtown Vegas would be like on a large-scale digital camera, or how it would look.
