While organizing a rally for Black girls, women, and femmes, my co-organizer Coy lost their housing. They are now crowdfunding $5K to secure new housing. As we left the rally on Sunday, I thought of Oluwatoyin Salau—a Black girl who after a racial justice protest, was kidnapped & ultimately murdered by a cishet Black man because she too did not have a Home to return to. Coy is now experiencing a reality that is far too common for Black Trans Women & Femmes: a disproportionate rate of housing insecurity, police violence, and under/unemployment experienced due to discrimination based on their perceived gender and race.
