🪱 'I am not eccentric. It's just that I am more alive than most people. I am an unpopular electric eel set in a pond of catfish.' - Dame Edith Sitwell Wyndham Lewis’s intriguing portrait of the poet Edith Sitwell is our #WorkOfTheWeek. The piece took more than a decade to paint, with the work reflecting the changing relationship between artist and sitter. Sitwell commented to have sat for Lewis every day except Sundays for ten months, but as their relationship deteriorated the poet refused to pose, resulting in the portrait having no hands. Wyndham Lewis, Edith Sitwell 1923–35, on free display at Tate Britain.
