This Artidote Moment felt historic—not because it was the first Moment in the Middle East nor because it happened inside of a cruise ship docked at the coast of Dubai. It was historic simply because the SPIRIT of The Artidote, 7 years after its inception, feels more ALIVE than ever. I felt it in the people present. Some of which have been with us since Day 1 of this journey; a journey of overcoming fears, tending compassionately to our wounds, prioritizing our mental health as we learn to trust deeper in ourselves. As I fly back home to Merida, I walk away with valuable takeaways about our community here: Dubai is a gorgeous city that has been growing at an incredibly rapid pace in recent decades. Consequently, “the future”was one of the main concerns and points of stress/anxiety that many of the attendees anonymously expressed. The importance (and weight) of job security was another factor that contributes to the collective stress of this bustling metropolis. Another thread I picked up was the expressed difficulty of nurturing authentic, human connections in a city that may leave little time outside of work to even tend to our individual needs let alone to nurture external relationships. Many people have moved to Dubai for work (80% of its population is made up of immigrants), so this can feel like a busy, lonely place for newcomers.
