Excerpts -- Making visual poetry out of her intimate domestic rituals, Ruth Lauer Manenti has created a slow-photography series that captures the charged atmosphere of everyday spaces. The work celebrates the light and simplicity of her small 1940's home in the Catskill Mountains, and the pleasures she finds in everyday routines. -- “Excerpts has to do with being at home, and letting myself photograph whatever I wanted to,” Lauer Manenti explains. “I guess, as an artist, I had always been trying to fulfill certain expectations of what I should be making—expectations that weren’t really mine but that I thought defined what would make a worthy picture or subject. With this project I let all of that go.” “I love sweeping and washing dishes, dustpans and simple silverware, so I began there.” -- See many more photos, and read the excellent essay in: lensculture.com Photographs by Ruth Lauer Manenti @lauermanenti Essay by Joanna L.
