This story has been well over two year in the making amidst the pandemic, travel restrictions and many unexpected twists and turns. I still remember when many moons ago I received a very excited phone call from Marie-Laure telling me Vogue wanted to travel to Chad with me, write a story about Chébé and feature it on international women day. It was a lifetime ago and here we are now. Merci @voguemagazine Global team in particular Lauren Valenti @lauren_valenti, senior beauty editor, Landon Phillips @landon_neil, Olivia Horner @olivebitties, Ruth and Luke Ossai and of course Marie-Laure Fournier @fournierpr for your dedication, professionalism and respectful attitude towards Chad, its people, customs and traditions. For the story, I traveled recently to rural Chad with wonderful photographer @ruthossaistudio and her assistant Luke to document the millenia-old ritual of Chébé, something exclusive to my country and that was never covered this way by any media before. From the busy city of N’Djaména where I have my Chébé workshop, to the ferricks in Batha among the Ouled Badr to the mountain ranges of Guéra where we met the Arab Basara and where grows the magical Chébé du Tchad. And what a privilege to travel with la crème de la crème: THE Vogue! @voguemagazine @voguebeauty. I am so so so deeply honored. And prouder than ever to be Chadian. Choukran (merci) et lalékoum (welcome) to Chad! #salwapetersen #chébédutchad #voguemagazine #earnedmedia #omgweareinvogue #somebodypinchmeimustbedreaming #iamnotcryingyouarecrying
