When I grew up in Texas in the 90s, there was no talk about being transgender. Only the occasional joke on TV. I didn’t meet a transgender person until I moved to NYC at 23. How wild is that? We have made so much progress in my lifetime.
We were reminded yesterday that there’s still plenty of people who don’t accept transgender people and want to silence us.
It’s not surprising. it’s not new.
And we can’t make them change. We can’t force them into a change of heart. It’s a waste of time. We can’t even spend too much time being mad at them. That’s another waste of time.
Progress takes time. Instead of turning our anger towards people who aren’t going to change, who hold trans people down to get more votes or laughs, let’s use that energy to lift up and help transgender people everywhere.
That was my intention at starting the Stay Gold Fund - I wanted to use that energy to make the lives of trans people better/easier/happier/healthier until the laws and politicians catch up.
If you want to help, if you really want to really stick it to those politicians, pull out your wallet and donate to one of these organizations that directly impacts trans people’s lives. They really hate when trans people thrive.
