✂️”I like to describe my work as drawing with a knife,” says @catfriendo (Sam Heidinger), a paper artist in Calgary, Alberta. Sam’s intricate, whimsical pieces feel contemporary, but the history of paper cutting as an artform is long – it’s thought to have originated in China 2,500 years ago. The thrill of her craft, Sam says, is learning to transform traditional techniques into “something fun, modern and more fitting to me.” Cats are a recurring motif, yet Sam’s ideas come from all over. “I’m endlessly inspired by history, pop culture and video games,” she says.
