ICYMI: @awood45 retired from Major League Baseball. Writing that feels surreal. I always knew this day would come, but somehow it still arrived faster than I could’ve imagined. Time really does fly when you’re having fun. Alex and I started dating his rookie year with the Braves in 2013. I barely knew the rules back then — now I probably know more than anyone should. I never imagined baseball would come to mean so much to me, but it gave us everything: adventure, friendship, life lessons, unforgettable memories, and a deep sense of purpose. It’s been one of the greatest honors of my life to watch you live out your childhood dream, @awood45 . Somewhere along the way, it became my dream too. Your highs were mine, and your lows too. Thank you for giving me a front-row seat to witness it all. I watched you battle injuries, surgeries, and setbacks — and come back stronger every time. I watched you shine on the game’s biggest stages: All-Star, World Series champion. All while being the best teammate, leader, friend, husband, and dad anyone could ask for. We moved ~35 times, survived 2 trades, did long distance, ordered so much room service, racked up sky miles, built a marriage, and started a family — all while chasing the dream. To our teammates turned family — you are the best thing about the game, and I’m so glad our friendships will long out last it. To the @braves, @dodgers, @reds, @giants, and @athletics for giving Alex the chance to live out his dream, and to the incredible fans who made every city feel like home — we are forever grateful. Unless you’ve lived it, it’s hard to understand what this game demands — the grit, the physical sacrifice, the relentless mental fortitude. You gave it your all. Every single day. There will be a baseball-sized hole in both our hearts for a while, but we’ll carry the gifts and lessons the game gave us forever. I’m so proud of you. I’m so proud of us. I can’t wait for the day our boys pull out your jerseys, cards, and ring and say, “Wow, Daddy did all that?” And I’ll beam with pride and say, “Yes he did. And he gave it everything he had.” Congratulations, my love. 🤍 (p.s. swipe for a stroll down memory lane)
