These last few weeks have been incredibly intense but also just plain fucking fantastic. I got to share the booth and the stage with two incredible artists and friends who frankly I learned the art and craft of DJing from @dannytenagliaofficial @blucu For me their talents and ears are otherworldly and I wouldn’t be the artist I am today without spending countless nights on their dancefloors and having the privilege of being both in the booth and the studio to watch them create. I studied and learned and took in as much as I could hoping to one day be good enough to call myself a dj. I slept on floors and couches, took buses, planes, and trains to hear them play, got hired and fired, taken off the decks, been in and out of favor, misunderstood, fucked up gigs with a yet still developing ear and skill set, and told I wasn’t good enough, but all the while kept the lessons and mentorship from them and kept going. There was no one that looked like me in dance music at the time (a black transwoman ) and it was, and to some extent, still a boys club, but they were always supportive and generous with their time, love, and knowledge. In fact, it was Danny who was the first one to give me a Radio Shack two channel mixer when I told him I wanted to dj when I had no money and just a belt driven home turntable and a dream to contribute to house music because it was and is my oxygen. I am so proud, humbled, and so honored to be able to stand next to these two. For me they are still the best and the only ones who can get my ass on the dancefloor and when I hear and watch them play I still ask myself, HOW THE FUCK ARE THEY DOING THAT?
