My grandmother, Asunción Onelia Tapanes Galvan passed away. this tattoo is in memory of her.
Growing up in Cuba I would sleep in my grandmothers bed, where above it on the wall hung the notorious picture of Jesus Christ holding his heart (I’m sure you know the one). I’ve always affiliated that image with her. Throughout the years whenever I would fly back to visit, the painting would still be there, above the bed, & she would be laying on the mattress right below it. She was a very traditional woman with traditional values, & so it felt right to do something in this style to honor her.
It can be challenging at times to love a stubborn & uncompromising person, but knowing they loved, & protected you with that same level of cast-iron, rigorous aggression makes the journey priceless.
Love the ones you have.
Thank you @javierbetancourt for squeezing me in on such late notice. I appreciate you brother.
