🤣Learn from my mistakes friends!! It can be so intimidating to talk to a guardians about their own child. With the younger students you might even have to be the very first person to notify a parent that their child isn’t exactly perfect. 👩🏼‍🏫 My first year of teaching I was so terrified of conferences that I actually scripted out exactly what I needed to say to parents of a student who was struggling in my classroom. I was so nervous that I barely thought about the conferences for the high achiever kiddos! I looked at them as a welcome break, how fun to tell a guardian their student is outstanding ! But then... a high achiever parent sat across from me and rapid fire asked “How are you challenging them?” “How can I continue to keep them above grade level?” “What should we be practicing at home?” I was so caught off guard I didn’t have an answer on the spot short of... keep doin what you are doin 🙃 haha! 👊🏻NOW I prepare next steps for EVERY STUDENT, so if a guardian is open to it I have ways for them to support from home! ✨If you teach kinder I have a resource with handouts for kinder skills that have SAVED ME from ever making this mistake again!
