Completely humbled and honoured to have photographed Nevada Senator Catherine Cortez Masto @cortezmasto in Las Vegas for the October print issue of @elleusa 💫💫 Senator Cortez Masto has been the first Latina to be elected in the US Senate and is Nevadas first woman Senator. This election race has been one of the most watched of the midterms in the country and if won along with Senate contests in Arizona, Georgia, Pennsilvania and Wisconsin, has the potential to shift the power in Congress’s upper chamber! The stakes are especially high for women and immigrants in this state. With Cortez Masto out of office, her opponent Adam Laxalt will support anti—abortion rights and anti-immigration rights. There have only ever been 58 women elected to the U.S Senate. Cortez Masto was the 49th. “There are challenges we face as Latinas and as women, we need more representation. I’m honoured to have made history, but its been more about bringing the those voices into the room where we are addressing and making policy.
