Thrilled to finally be in beautiful Zambia with the @glblctzn team & our Europe Board co-chair @sabrinaelba. There are many highlights from this trip. A top one so far was our meeting with the President and First Lady of Zambia. Less than 12 months in the role, President Hichilema has hit the ground running. He shared with us his own experience as a farmer and his work, as an undergrad, with @ifadnews. This lived experience has instilled in him the belief that Zambia can be a net agricultural exporter, at a time when more sources of food are needed than ever before. In the end, supporting farmers in Zambia and the continent will help in a big way to stave off a global food crisis, and the undernourishment of hundreds of millions of people. The President also shared his vision on how mining in Zambia can help pave the way for the transition from fossil fuels to renewables globally. It is one of the world’s largest producers of nickel, cobalt, copper and lithium - all key to electric vehicles, battery’s and the broader clean energy transition. A deeply inspiring chat and one which also finished with the President’s overview of Zambia’s beautiful landscape. Never realized Victoria Falls was bigger than Niagara!
