Yesterday I spoke at The United Nations Headquarters in New York City on responsible production and consumption, something I’ve been practicing for years. For me it’s important on many different levels - Because it’s not just me sitting there in a space that means so much to so many, it’s a working class , queer person representing a changing shift to a better more responsible industry sitting in a space where historically that isn’t the norm.
For these movements to grow and flourish we need to hear from as many different voices as possible, and from those who are actually doing the work to make the change. We have to listen and then act to create long term positive change. It’s an exciting time to be a fashion designer and I hope that somewhere someone who thinks it’s not for them because of the huge inequality, and class under representation in this industry sees this and thinks - YES - I can do that too.
Congratulations to @kerrybannigan @fashionimpactfund @un_partners for curating such an interesting session representing a wide range of voices from within the fashion industry. 📷 Lisa Rato
