“Though he is the youngest designer on our list, Jude Macasinag is no fresh-faced newcomer to the Philippine fashion scene. His take on his Filipino heritage has produced particularly memorable designs. These include fully hand-sewn gown embellished with Palawan freshwater pearls and five-centavo coins depicting his signature sunburst design. For the past four years, the 22-year-old has been refining his artistic approach studying at the Institut Français de la Mode in Paris. There, he discovered a penchant for research as a mode of inspiration. For Macasinag's analytical eye, anything from the boxer codex to an anting-anting (amulet or charm) can be a muse. Although he views Filipino history as a deep well of ideas, he is wary of the thin line between inspiration and tokenization. ‘I wanted to step away from the tokenization of Philippine culture — seeing a form and translating it as such,’ he says. ‘I try to look for the essence within what we already culturally have and apply it to present-day clothing.’” Vogue Philippines Maiden Issue, September 2022 Words by @loveeunicaa Photograph @cenonatmav Model @thirdworldbb Fashion @pamquinones @reneeedg Couldn’t have been more honored and grateful that my first Vogue feature is one from home 🙏🏻 Thank you, @voguephilippines 🫶🏼
