Thanks for posting this, @funklife4ever!
This was Etta James’s (and mine) first song from her first ever show in Europe at the Montreux Jazz Festival in 1975. Such an intoxicating experience. She was about 37 years old, and I had just turned 20. The great Claude Nobs assembled this fantastic band for us there, including John Paul Jones on bass, (Zep was on a break, due to Robert Plant’s achilles injury) Doug Hammond on drums, Klaus Doldinger on sax, the Mighty Flea on trombone, Pony Poindexter on sax and several others, whose names escape me in this moment.
Etta had that audience in the palm of her hand from her very first verse. I remember her being nervous to sing in front of a crowd that she thought didn’t understand English.
A towering and immense talent was she.

We'll wrap today's Mavis Staples birthday celebration with Etta James doing her thing on "Respect Yourself" in '75. Shout-out to Brian Ray on guitar. (Oh, and that's Led Zep's John Paul Jones on bass.)
