We’re relishing the recent blue skies and crisper mornings! ☀️ We took our Bookseller and Returns Coordinator, Ness, to the beach and asked them what their favourite recent reads are. Here’s what they had to say: They Came To Slay This Inkling has been mentioned to me by everyone who knows me, and it did not disappoint! It explores how Dungeons & Dragons, and all roleplaying games by extent, can be used as a safe space to explore our own queerness through the characters we play and the stories we tell together. A great read full of fun references for seasoned players, that is also accessible to the uninitiated, and might tempt you to play yourself! I Was Born For This Angel has waited her entire life to see her favourite band, The Ark, in person. Jimmy is a member of The Ark, and feels like his life is spinning out of his control. When their paths cross at a meet-and-greet gone wrong, it sends them on a journey to discover what they want and how to connect with the people they love. An insightful study of fandom culture, from both perspectives. A Prayer For The Crown-Shy In the most recent Monk & Robot novella, Sibling Dex and Mosscap continue on their journey to find out, in a world where people have everything they could ever want for, what is it that they need. Immaculate worldbuilding as ever, with characters so real they feel like old friends. This book made me laugh, cry, and cringe, as only the very best of books can. If you haven't read any Becky Chambers, you're missing out! Fat and Queer This anthology contains a mixture of prose and poetry exploring the ways in which society polices our bodies and shames those who don't conform to the status quo. A celebration of not fitting in and finding beauty in places we have been told not to, and refusing stereotypes that are based on body shapes and appearances. Until next time... #BooksellersOnTheBeach
