Reposted from @thelegendsofmusic Muddy Waters playing “(I’m Your) Hoochie Coochie Man” Live on the 27th of October, 1968 at the Copenhagen Jazz festival This song was written by the great Willie Dixon who is one of the greatest songwriters of all time. Dixon told Paul Zollo in a 1988 interview: “People believe in mystic things. Like people today believe in astrology. That’s been going on for generations, since biblical days. People all over the world believe in it. Even before Jesus was born, according to the Bible. The wise men saw the stars in the East and were able to predict about things. All of these things are mystic. They say, ‘Hoochie coochie people are telling fortunes.’ You know, like the wise men of the East. They call them ‘voodoo men’ or ‘hoochie coochie men.’ They used to call them ‘hoodoo folk’ and ‘two-head people.’ They got many names for everybody.” Willie Dixon had a hand in writing some of the biggest songs that Chess Records put out and he was personally responsible for a lot of the hits Muddy Waters, and Willie Dixon had in their career. In November of 1953, Willie Dixon approached Leonard Chess with “Hoochie Coochie Man”, a song he felt was just right for Muddy. He approached the singer who was performing that evening at the Club Zanzibar in Chicago and showed it to him at the intermission. Muddy instantly took to the song and performed it that night. A few months later, the song was formally recorded with his classic Chicago blues band, which featured Jimmie Rodgers on guitar, Little Walter on harmonica, Elgin Evans on drums along with Otis Spann on piano. iiii]; )'
