FROM THE ARCHIVES: ISLAND ISSUE 2 •• Seeking a logic other than the rational, Rosanna Raymond creates art that makes us want to know the woman behind her craft. She is a woman who makes us want to know her mahi deeply, and feel it. The legendary Sistar S’pacific is a mother, multi-disciplinary artist, writer, poet and innovator of the contemporary Pasifika art scene. Rosanna has always had a calling to transcend the mundane and amplifies this through the connection to her Samoan and Pākeha roots. She is a long-standing member of the art collective, The Pacific Sisters and founder of her own venture The SaVAge K’lub. Her loyalties to the art world have seen Rosanna as a key producer, highly-esteemed creator, and commentator of Pacific Island culture in Aotearoa and internationally. Her practice is rooted thematically in diaspora identity and Pro’nesian desire. She’s constantly lingered in the realm of academia and activism, with no plans of slowing down.
