[By Hook or by Crook].... The story goes that the phrase “By Hook or by Crook” is derived from a vow by Oliver Cromwell to take Waterford by Hook (on the Wexford side of Waterford Estuary) or by Crook (a village on the Waterford side), which is something I, for one, hadn’t heard before! Intrigued to know if there are any other similar sayings we use as part of our vernacular every day that also have an interesting back story! Heading home today after a lovely week exploring the beautiful coasts of Wexford & Waterford. We will be back again for sure, hopefully next time sans Covid! ———- #explore #discoverireland #irishcoast #wexford #waterford #irelandsancienteast #failteireland #irelandtravel #ireland #dunmorecliffwalk #dunmoreeast #hookhead #byhookorbycrook
