I feel like your instincts alert you pretty early on about someone... even if they don’t do anything wrong outright. This time, I think there were a lot of little things that added up. Inconsistencies with their words and behavior, lack of emotional and self-awareness, high-conflict personality. Things just add up over time and eventually I reach a point where my efforts feel futile.
