Replying to @yellowsail Part 4 bc a lot of people have been asking what the differences are between a classic sticker Vending Machine and my capstone design (or just outright calling me stupid because it already exist like damn y'all need to go hug your mother) 1. Payment mechanism. The classic machine requires you to use a lot of push force to get quarters in and stickers out. If they're not well maintained, it can get stuck and take a lot of muscle to move. My design uses one that you'd find in an old snack machine, a sanitary pad machine, and a gumball machine. It turns the coils and pushes product to the side. 2. My machine uses tokens instead of quarters! (Guaranteed I believe you could get the classic design fitted to use tokens but I still did not like the mechanism) I had a professor tell me to just sell 25¢ stickers... Artists can still be paying 33¢ for a sticker even when buying them in bulk of A THOUSAND. 3. Portability. A classic machine is around 50LBS. An artist's can't lug that to an art convention. And imagine how much a 4ft 50lb machine would cost to SHIP. Now I really don't know what mine is going to weight. My guess is 30lbs and my goal is to keep it under that as much as possible. I want to balance lightweight with durable. 4. Aesthetics. Everyone's got a different opinion. So I asked myself, who is the target demographic? On one side it's my retailers. They are running fun, colorful maximalist stores with very limited space. The other side is artists who are each different but I think to cover a wide variety would be something that is fun, colorful, and friendly! I'll have an official update next week after my committee meeting on Friday, so stay tuned! . . . . . . . . . #industrialdesign #industrialdesignstudent #vendingmachine #artvendingmachine #artomat #stickervendingmachine #industrialdesignmajor
