‘It’s Called: Freefall’ by Rainbow Kitten Surprise. @rksbandofficial choreographed, danced, filmed, and edited by me. (my dad gets hotel booking credits) choreography comes to me in dreams—daydreams. i don’t find inspiration in big empty dance studios. i find inspiration in grocery stores, sitting in the back of a classroom, climbing a big old-growth-forest tree, or rolling silverware at the end of a restaurant shift. because dance isn’t a thing i save for studios or stages or performances. dance lives in my every move. it’s how i learn, how i process, how i see the world, how i feel emotions. i dance best on Manhattan piers, in my apartment kitchen, and in the middle of the woods. because of that, when i do create something and put it all together in a big empty studio, i become precious about everything. every move has to be perfectly planned, and it must tell a specific story. this was different. this song has meant different things to me in different parts of my life. when i first heard this song i was at Conserve School and “leaving it all behind” meant nothing more than leaving my home for some of the greatest adventures of my life. but then i came home, and “leaving it all behind” meant losing friends, losing homes, losing what could’ve been, and almost losing my passion. i don’t know what this song means to me anymore. and this sprouted from that confusion. i sat in a hotel room for 6 hours and just kept creating. it truly came from the most raw version of me. no plans, no set story, no clear vision. i don’t know how others will interpret this, and for the first time in my artistic career i’m really proud to say that. i made this almost all by myself, but i’m just a mosaic of all the people, family, friends, dancers, artists, strangers, buildings, songs, movies, and trees that i love so thank you to everyone for making my world so beautiful that i just want to make art about it. and at this time in my creative journey, i’m also a mosaic of the artists i’ve been training with @bdcnyc. thank you for the inspiration you bring to me and your support of my artistry @camryn.brothers, @zojea, @cat_cogliandro, @kenichi.kasamatsu, @mfailoni ❤️
