Nazanin Boniadi, who stars in ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power’ series, spoke to Reuters about the ongoing uprising in her home country of Iran following the murder of Mahsa Amini. Boniadi compared these demonstrations to previous uprisings in Iran and said the protesters have been more courageous than she had ever seen before. ‘This time, the thing that’s unprecedented is that you’re seeing people fight back against the security forces, women burning their headscarves, not just waving them, not just taking them off and waving them. And you’re seeing a direct message to the authorities that they don’t want the Islamic Republic anymore,’ she stated. Boniadi urged the international community to stand by the people of Iran and make sure the Iranian authorities are held accountable for the violence carried out against their people. Born in Tehran shortly after the Iranian Revolution ended, Boniadi migrated with her family to London in 1980. Since 2008, she has partnered with Amnesty International to campaign for the rights of Iranian youth and women.
